The transition from life to new life always requires a 'shift' and this is death - not an ultimate end, but a gateway to a new experience. Ask any oak tree - does it fear the loss of it's leaves in the fall? Does it even fear it's fall to the ground where it's trunk will be consumed by the earth? With the 'bigger picture' of the life cycle of an oak tree, from acorn to grand tree to rotten log, to dirt, to acorn sprouting amidst the dirt, death pales into insignificance - a short moment in the "great cycle".

The whole obsession with doomsday and 'end of the world' is simply this:
The ego's fear of it's own inescapable end. Death is a natural and inevitable part of the cycle of life, as all of us know.

The Mayan calendar gracefully, scientifically charts many such 'great cycles' in the life cycles of the greater cosmos. Death is an integral part of it all.

The simple message of the Mayan 13th Baktun 'end date' is that our perception of time as we now conceive of it will come to an end.
It will mark a point on a great circle that plots our solar system's orbit around the galactic centre and is related to the 25920 year cycle of the Precession of the Equinoxes.
On 21.12.2012 there will be a 'moment' of 'no-time' (aka. death) when we will all glimpse eternity, after which the universe will move into a new epoch of creation.

Those life forms that are unable to deal with the fear of this moment will be 'doomed' to endure another "great cycle" of evolutionary learning, while those who let go of fear will enjoy the new life that this affords.
The mainstream media's current obsession with the 2012 end-date is just the last gasp of a fearful ego-centred world view that is coming to an end.
Pay no attention to it and enjoy the freedom that follows!

i have a question for you...knowing that it is an inevitability that each of us is promised death merely by receiving the opportunity to live...how is it frightening that there is a potential end all to end alls? one way or the other we expire on an individual level..and for most of us this individual mortality is all that is recognized. is it because the prophetic possibility of a given date to an end of your personal existence reaffirms the reality of mortality. live every moment as if it is your last, and breath every breath as if it is your last...because it is potentially your last...whether or not doomsday ever arrives.

I think mayans haven't written about doomsday officially. Their calender ends up on dec. 21, 2012, anyway it doesn't mean certainly doomsday.
